market for E-books?

Is there a market for E-books?
Friends, I am thinking of spending few weeks writing one or two quality ebooks. Do you think I would be able to sell them off at a good price ? If so, where ? Have you ever made and sold an ebook ?

I know colleagues who've done that. I'm not sure what price they sold it for, though I actually think they gave it away for free even though the e-book had highly specialized advice, something about real estate, law, and marketing. They have a joint blog though, so they promoted it there. I think their main goal is to hook in a group of loyal subscribers so they can eventually have a more solid audience who'll be more open to buying their other e-books in the future.
